Intentful (+Hitomi)

           || { † } Homura spent the rest of that night rather disorientated as well, not to mention anxious. No doubt was she anxious about her reckless actions concerning Shizuki Hitomi coming back to bite her with said girl remembering the events suddenly; it would completely destroy whatever progress was made in this timeline. Not to mention how it would be entirely the vampire’s fault. Of all of her victims, this one was one she decided to falter on…how disappointing, to be quite frank.

Though, not only was there that anxiety, there was…something else plaguing the back of her mind. Something reminiscent of worry, concern, guilt… emotions she thought herself to be incapable of feeling. It was an unclear fog, but the question of why couldn’t keep itself from entering her thoughts multiple instances that night. Why was she worried about Shizuki Hitomi?

She was quite reluctant to show up at school the next morning, but the notion of keeping surveillance over both Madoka and Hitomi outweighed her overwhelming uncertainty. Homura made it priority to at least keep an eye on Hitomi, and if anything did happen during school, the vampire could deal with her in the way she should have dealt with her the night before (if Hitomi did come into school in the first place, that was). Even though that did mean Madoka being upset and heavily affected, at least she wasn’t upset and heavily affected by her. Emotional vulnerability would definitely convince Madoka to listen – as learnt from her reaction to deaths such as Tomoe Mami’s and Miki Sayaka’s in the past.

These things encumbered her mind as she mechanically went through her familiar mourning routine. The cold tea Hitomi left still sat on the desk, accompanied by an assortment of dry cookies. That could just be cleaned up later, Homura decided; she had more pressing tasks to get to. The journey to school was mundane as usual, as was the short walk to the classroom.

As she entered, her eyes flicked keenly across the students already within. It came as a mild surprise that Hitomi was indeed in school today. She seemed like the type to have always shown up in class even if she was supposed to be bedridden after all, but at the same time it wasn’t likely that she’d experienced the effects of a vampire bite in the past. Of all the things to keep her at home, Homura would have guessed at least almost dying would be it.

On some kind of whim, the thought almost made her feel…responsibility. She wasn’t supposed to feel guilty about killing anymore, but because she’d spared Hitomi for whatever reason, it was if she felt something like a twisted responsibility over her life. Would that explain why she was so hospitable last night? No, couldn’t be, she’d had selfish motives behind her actions, however friendly they might have been. But even so…

Not even paying thought to how she’d looked past Madoka and Sayaka, Homura stepped through the sea of desks and stood over a rather pale and tired-looking Hitomi. Going by the lack of frantic response it was quite safe to assume how Hitomi hadn’t remembered.

❝ Good morning Shizuki-san. I hope you managed a better sleep after last night. How are you feeling? I have to wonder why you didn’t just stay home to rest for the day. ❞
